Many of you know Captain’s story, but for those who don’t I’ll explain a bit to help you better understand what this fundraiser is for.
Captain was beaten and neglected, in a serious and horrifying way, for the first 8.5 months of his life. The vet said his skin infections and mange were from the neglect, and the physical damage from the beatings have given him soreness in his shoulders as well as a jaw that does not fully open. Then, after all of that, he was dumped at a high kill shelter and put directly onto the To Be Destroyed list.
Luckily the good people at Second Chance Rescue saw him and pulled him, and he then went to a foster home. His first foster mom couldn’t care for him, so he came into boarding at my old job. That’s where I first met him. That’s where I saw him slowly deteriorate. I loved him too much to let it continue, and brought him home in November.
Captain still has a limp, and a funky jaw, but is otherwise in perfect physical health. His emotional and mental state is much better than it was, but he is still very fearful. I want to change that.

The Fundraiser:
Captain took classes with a trainer named Merri from Finish Forward Dogs. She helped him overcome some of his fearfulness, and learn how to control his impulses. I want to further that. I want him to become an ambassador for rescue dogs. A pup that can travel to adoption events, school visits, and elsewhere. To do that he needs to be ‘bomb-proof’, and I need training for both of us in order to get there. I’m asking for help getting into BMOD classes at Finish Forward, and then Better Bully group classes at the same facility. If you want to help us become a voice for rescue dogs, especially beaten/neglected/bully breed ones, please donate what you can!

I’m asking for help to complete Captain’s training and help him become a canine good citizen. The goal is to be able to attend events, seminars and trainings so we can help share his story.
There is hope for the dogs in shelters that go overlooked all too often, and usually for easily changed behavioral issues.
Help us share that, and put articles like the one recently published by the Washington Post to shame. With the proper education, all of us can help the dogs that may need a little extra. Wether it be encounters with ‘sidewalk dogs’ or actually adopting one!
Please, help captain become the rescue ambassador I know he is. Help us save lives.
We’re $100 closer to our goal. Only $250 to go!

Seriously though, this one. Many people, even many of you currently seeing this on your feed/dash have improperly greeted Captain. I know even more have improperly greeted other dogs. Please. Take this seriously. It puts dogs in very dangerous situations, as well as yourselves, and can cost lives.

In January 2006, Molly leapt a 5-foot-5-inch slaughterhouse gate at Mickey’s Packing Plant in Great Falls, raced through town with police and animal control on her heels, ran in front of a train, swam across the Missouri River and took three tranquilizer darts before finally being recaptured six hours later. She was spared from slaughter and dubbed the Unsinkable Molly B. “Animals do not ‘give’ their life to us, as the sugar-coated lie would have it. They struggle and fight to the last breath.”

"But animals don’t feel pain!"

"They are so stupid that they can’t understand what’s happening"

"Bleh ble ble barf"

I just read about another cow the other day, named Emily, who did the same thing. She escaped the slaughterhouse and evaded capture for 40 days as local residents helped to keep her hidden and purposefully misled the police as to where she was. She was eventually caught but given to a sanctuary called The Peace Abbey where she lived out the rest of her life. There is a statue there dedicated to her.

It’s incredibly sad that so many people easily empathize with these few cows who escaped but don’t give a shit about any of the other billions of cows killed worldwide who weren’t lucky enough to find a way out.

^ yo

How can people sympathize with this story yet not give a damn about the cow/s in their beef burger?

I agree, total moral schizophrenia, this is exactly what one of my sons said when this post went viral.
